With summer upon us and recent grads hitting the job boards at an increasing pace as the glitter of the diploma wears off and those student loans inch oh so much closer to being out of deferment, those Philosophy major have to take a second from pondering all of our worldly problems and come back to earth and GET A JOB!!

Philosophy majors often have difficulty translating that major into an actual career considering the Bureau of Labor Statistics doesn't exactly report on a career in Philosophy aside from the traditional professor or teacher so let's start there.

Being a philosophy teacher or professor is still possibly the most purest career path for philosophy majors. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that Philosophy teachers and professors earn an average of $66,050 teaching at Colleges, Universities, and Professional Schools.

The northeast is the best location for this occupation which is related to it's relative geographic location to the Ivy League Schools. Philosophy teachers in Rhode Island make an average of $87,670. New York and New Jersey are also closely behind Rhode Island for states that pay Philosophy teachers top dollar.

Philosophy majors are not just limited to careers in Philosophy. Philosophy majors can be found in many different industries such as Law, Business, Healthcare, Government, Information Analysis, and the list goes on and on. Don't let that piece of paper that says your major was in Philosophy hold you back from careers outside of that arena.

We have over 17,000 jobs for Philosophy at JobMommy and you can check those out here or here at one of our job boards.
